Since the upgrade to ver. 8 my Divx Plus Player keeps crashing. Many people are having the same experience. Is there a stand alone Divx player that works. I tried the Ace Divx Player shell but it crashes to. If not I could use a program that converts Divx to another format that windows can play.

QFT FTW

Just make sure during the cccp codec pack install at the end to verify the settings uncheck the generic mp4 option so you can watch mkv files without using another player

Hehe yup, never found anything better to change it to. You need to get back on ICQ/AIM sometime.

Trying to think ahead.
"Note: do not touch anything you didn't install yourself, or anything you're unsure about. When in doubt, ask"

I have two Codec entries in Remove Programs:
MS MPEG-4 VKI Video Codec V1/V2/V3
XviD MPEG-4 Video Codec

Before I run Insurgent I would like to know if it is ok to remove either of these files when prompted by Insurgent to do so.

Installation Settings:
General screen only check: Set Perceived Types
First page: only uncheck Generic MPEG4
Second page:
File Association: can I change all to to Media Player Classic
Haali Media Splitter:
Check: Show Tray Icon, Enable MPEG-TS,MKV,MP4,OGG/OGM
VSFilter: No checks
Any errors?

The defaults are the best options for newbies (and even experts rarely have reason to change them) but you can set everything to play with media player classic.

As for the insurgent, you only need to run that if you are having a problem with CCCP, otherwise leave it alone. If there is a conflict and you do need it, the best way to remove those extra codecs is to go into add or remove programs in the control panel (or the program group for that codec in the start menu) and uninstall them from there if possible. Only use the insurgent to remove them if there is no uninstall option.

CCCP is set up to be a program you just install and it works, if there are codecs that conflict or are known to cause problems the CCCP installer itself will ask you if you want to try and disable them. The only bit that requires some tinkering once in a while is making sure media player classic is your default video player, which usually comes up if you have other players installed (like the divx player), so if media player classic is NOT loading up when you click a video, start MPC and pull up its options (O key) and click on formats ---> and push the Video button near the bottom then push OK.

Thanks Krom your answers are much easier to understand than the instructions. Instructions usually take it for granted the person reading knows what is going on.
